Choosing a System

UNDERSTANDING TDS

Total dissolved solids (TDS) is a measure of the dissolved combined content of all inorganic and organic substances present in water. Generally, the operational definition is that the solids must be small enough to survive filtration through a filter with two-micrometer (nominal size, or smaller) pores. The principal application of TDS is in the study of water quality, although TDS is not generally considered a primary pollutant (e.g. it is not deemed to be associated with health effects) it is used as an indication of aesthetic characteristics of drinking water and as an aggregate indicator of the presence of a broad array of chemical contaminants.

These particles in our water is what dirt/dust and other contaminates attach to after the windows are washed, creating spots, streaks, or getting dirty over time. The following chart shows the average TDS per Province across Canada from municipal water sources and weighted based on high population areas. By using the right pure water equipment for your areas’ TDS rating to get the number down to zero, the windows you are cleaning will be streak free and clean for longer.

WHICH SYSTEM IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Technically a DI only system (1 Stage) will take your water to near zero TDS, but if you are using a DI only system in a medium to high TDS area you will burn through resin very fast costing you a lot of $$$. The following charts shows you what the AVERAGE use of DI resin will be under normal working conditions for each type of system. For most of Canada the optimal system to use is a 3 Stage Pure Water system.
